Boston lead guitarist and songwriter Tom Scholz says he’s thrilled that his band’s classic 1976 hit “More than a Feeling” will be featured in the season finale of the hit ABC comedy series The Goldbergs, airing Wednesday, May 16, at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT.
The episode features the teenage character Erica Goldberg, portrayed by Hayley Orrantia, and her band performing “More than a Feeling” at their first official gig, which happens to be her school prom.
In a message posted on Boston’s Facebook page, Scholz writes, “When I recorded ‘More than a Feeling’ in the basement of an apartment house 42 years ago, I had no idea that it would resonate with so many people. My goal was to write music that would motivate, inspire, or just give people a little escape from their everyday lives. It’s awesome to see these songs still being enjoyed so many years later.”
Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Orrantia, who also is a music artist, says of the enduring Boston tune, “I remember rocking out to that song with my dad on road trips…I only hope Tom and the band think we did the song justice!”
The Goldbergs is based on executive producer Adam F. Goldberg‘s own family and experiences coming of age during the 1980s. He says “More than a Feeling” “was one of my favorite songs growing up. It’s such an amazing feel-good song. When I hear that song, it takes me right back in time to fun times with my brother, making it the perfect song to close out our big season finale.”
Boston has been off the road since wrapping up its 2017 Hyper Space Tour last July. The band currently has no shows on its schedule.
