Todd Rundgren Set to Rejoin Ringo’s All Starr Band After Finishing Solo Tour This Weekend

Credit: Danny O’ConnorTodd Rundgren wraps up his current U.S. solo tour with a pair of concerts over the Memorial Day weekend in New Haven, Connecticut. The shows, which take place Sunday and Monday at the College Street Music Hall, originally were supposed be held at Daryl Hall‘s venue Daryl’s Place in Pawling, New York, but recently were moved.

After his trek winds down, Rundgren will switch his attention to Ringo Starr‘s All Starr Band, which launches its own stateside outing on Friday, June 3, in Syracuse, New York.

Starr currently is working on a new studio album, a follow-up to last year’s Postcards from Paradise, which for featured the first song ever co-written by an All Starr Band lineup — “Island in the Sun.”

Rundgren tells ABC Radio that he isn’t sure if Ringo will ask the group’s members to collaborate on a song for the new record.

“I haven’t really had much interaction with him about it, and he may be saving something for when the band gets together,” the singer/songwriter explains. He notes that the group will be gathering in upstate New York next week to rehearse for the tour, while pointing out that “Island in the Sun” came together during rehearsals for a previous trek.

“We essentially hacked it out in sound check…and essentially wrote the lyrics in his hotel room,” Rundgren recalls. “So, he may be holding out a song to try and reproduce that whole thing.”

As for whether the All Starr Band will be adding new tunes to their set lists for the upcoming trek, Todd says he isn’t sure.

“I don’t know whether there’ll be anything from the new album,” he reports, adding, “[T]here is a possibility that we will learn some new songs but…I haven’t been informed of that.”
