Daniel Knighton/Getty ImagesJune 24 will see the release of Steve Vai‘s Modern Primitive/Passion and Warfare 25th Anniversary Edition, a special double-disc package, on Legacy Recordings.

The first disc, Modern Primitive, consists of songs that Vai recorded in the mid ’80s following the release of his debut, Flex-Able, but before his breakthrough sophomore album, Passion and Warfare. In the liner notes, Vai writes, “Modern Primitive is the missing link between these two records. It’s sort of Cro-Magnon Vai.”

The second disc will indeed be a 25th anniversary reissue of Vai’s 1990 album Passion and Warfare, complete with bonus tracks and re-mastered sound. Vai describes this instrumental effort as “Jimi Hendrix meets Jesus Christ at a party that Ben Hur threw for Mel Blanc.”

The whole shebang will be housed in a four-panel soft-pack with a 20-page Modern Primitive booklet and a 24-panel Passion and Warfare poster fold.
