Mike Lewis Photography/RedfernsDave Mustaine fought off cancer in recent years, and now he's taken a big step in another kind of fight: jiu-jitsu.

The Megadeth frontman was recently promoted to purple belt in the Brazilian martial art, which the North American Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation describes as an intermediate adult level.

Mustaine's accomplishment was written up in an article by the Jiu-Jitsu Times website, which also posted a video of the belt promotion ceremony. Additionally, Mustaine's teacher, Reggie Almeida, shared a Facebook post of him congratulating Mustaine.

"After 2 years as a blue belt and hard training and lots of ups and downs today I had the honor to promote Mr @davemustaine to his well deserved purple belt!" the post reads. "Congratulations kid!!!"

Mustaine isn't the only rocker who practices jiu-jitsu: Tool's Maynard James Keenan previously earned his purple belt in 2015.

Meanwhile, Mustaine recently shared during a livestream interview that the next Megadeth album has a "tentative" title: The Sick, the Dying and the Dead. The upcoming record will be the follow-up to 2016's Dystopia.
