Lynyrd Skynyrd will perform in Cleveland on July 17, the night before the official kickoff of the Republican National Convention.
Johnny Van Zant, Gary Rossington and the boys will provide entertainment at the Welcome to Ohio Late Night party in downtown Cleveland. Although not an official RNC event, the Cleveland Rocks 2016 will be hosted by Ohio Speaker of the House and young Republican Cliff Rosenberger, and has conservative political ties, reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Kid Rock also is lined up for the private bash.
On a related note, Van Zant — the band led by brothers Johnny and Donnie Van Zant, the latter of 38 Special fame — will unveil a DVD on July 1.
Red, White & Blue (Live) captures show they played in Valdosta, Georgia back in 2006. The 14-song set list includes Van Zant fan favorites like “Takin’ Up Space” and “Red, White & Blue,” the Skynyrd signature song “Sweet Home Alabama” and 38 Special’s “Wild Eyed Southern Boys.” This is a unique DVD as it marks the only recorded concert from Van Zant’s tour.
