Foo Fighters are excited to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but maybe not for the reason you think.

Following Wednesday morning's announcement that the "Everlong" rockers are part of the Rock Hall's 2021 class, the band tweeted, "Holy s***! The guitar player from The Germs is in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!!!"

That, of course, refers to Pat Smear, who was a founding member of the influential '70s punk band. Germs fan Kurt Cobain recruited Smear to join Nirvana as a touring member, and he later reunited with Dave Grohl in Foo Fighters.

While Grohl has already been inducted into the Rock Hall as a member of Nirvana, Smear was not, making the Foos' induction his first official enshrinement.

Along with Foo Fighters, the 2021 Rock Hall class includes The Go-Go's, Todd Rundgren, JAY-Z, Carole King and Tina Turner. Additionally, artists including late Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Randy Rhoads and electronic pioneers Kraftwerk are being inducted with the Musical Excellence and Early Influence Awards, respectively.

The 2021 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place October 30 in Cleveland.
