Well, he certainly picked an appropriate song. Former Journey frontman Steve Perry recently posted a video of him singing an a cappella rendition of the classic 1963 Beach Boys ballad “In My Room” on his official website, YouTube channel and social media pages.

Perry’s mournful version of the tune was recorded while the singer is self-isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the very end of his performance, the 71-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer quietly says, “Hang in there.”

The clip was accompanied by a note from Perry that reads, “When I was a teenager in my room, this song gave me comfort. Stay safe, Steve.”

Perry’s performance was retweeted by founding Beach Boy Brian Wilson, who co-wrote the song with lyricist Gary Usher. Steve excitedly responded with a Twitter note that reads, “What a honor to know you watched my ‘In My Room’ selfie — I truly love your work!”

“In My Room” appeared on the 1963 Beach Boys album Surfer Girl, and also was released as the B-side of a two-sided single featuring the group’s tune “Be True to Your School” on the A-side. “In My Room” peaked at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100.
