Watch Jeff Lynne’s, Mick Fleetwood’s & other stars’ contributions to The Inner Light Challenge

631

Last month, the George Harrison-founded Material World Foundation launched a campaign dubbed The Inner Light Challenge asking people around the world to recite, perform or share a verse, chorus or line from the Harrison-penned 1968 Beatles song “The Inner Light” and post it on social media along with the hashtag #innerlight2020.

Since then, a variety of well-known music artists have taken up the challenge, posting YouTube videos of themselves performing some or all of the song, and those clips have been compiled on MaterialWorldFoundation.com. Among those stars are ELO‘s Jeff Lynne, Mick Fleetwood, Doors drummer John Densmore, Paul Rodgers, founding Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers members Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, and The BanglesSusanna Hoffs.

As previously reported, for every person that shares an “Inner Light” moment using the hashtag, the Material World Foundation will donate $1 — up to $100,000 — to three chosen charities aiding people affected by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic: the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund, Save the Children and Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders).

Other artists who also have contributed “The Inner Light” videos include ex-Squeeze keyboardist Jools Holland, U2 producer Daniel Lanois, Jewel, Weezer‘s Brian Bell, Moby, My Morning Jacket‘s Jim James, Harrison’s son Dhani, Willie Nelson‘s sons Lukas and Micah, and Anoushka Shankar, daughter of George’s late sitar mentor and friend Ravi Shankar.
