Veteran Rock Artists React to Prince’s Death

Ebet Roberts/RedfernsReaction to the death of Prince on Thursday morning was swift among members of the music community. Here are some tributes and homages to the multitalented entertainer that a number of veteran rock artists posted on their social media sites:

Paul McCartney tweeted that he was “[s]addened by Prince’s death,” and noted that he was proud that he had “seen in the New Year with him.” Sir Paul also wrote, “He seemed fine and played brilliantly funky music.” In a separate message, McCartney added, “God bless this creative giant. Thanks Prince. Love X Paul.”

The Rolling StonesMick Jagger: “I am so saddened to hear of Prince’s passing. Prince was a revolutionary artist, a wonderful musician and composer. He was an original lyricist and a startling guitar player. His talent was limitless. He was one of the most unique and exciting artists of the last 30 years.”

Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood: “I will miss a good friend who was so talented. He was such a great performer / guitar player. Sleep well Prince.”

The Who‘s Pete Townshend: “Goodbye sweet Prince. Pure, certified genius at the highest level. Too soon.”

Elton John: “This is truly devastating news. The greatest performer I have ever seen. A true genius. Musically way ahead of any of us. Sang with him twice on stage. What an honour. Rest in peace you purple warrior.”

Jon Bon Jovi: “I’m crushed by the news that one of the greatest inspirations in music EVER has passed. I was lucky enough to have met him many times…And to call him a friend…PRAYERS to his family and to all who loved his genius.”

KISSGene Simmons: “PRINCE, sad to say, has passed on!!! He was a Giant. My deep condolences go out to his family, friends and fans.”
