Credit: Lawrence WatsonVan Morrison hails from Northern Ireland but his music always has been steeped in American blues, R&B, jazz and folk, so it’s not surprising that the Americana Music Association has chosen to recognize him with its 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting. The legendary singer/songwriter will receive the award at this year’s edition of the Americana Honors & Awards event on September 13 at the famed Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

In addition, Morrison will play a special concert September 14 at the Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville, with his daughter Shana serving as his opening act. Tickets for the show will go on sale to the general public this Friday, May 19, at 10 a.m. local time via AscendAmphitheater.com.

The concert and the awards ceremony will be part of the 18th annual AmericanaFest, which runs from September 12 to September 17 and will feature performances at a variety of Nashville venues.

“We are humbled and couldn’t be more excited to honor Van Morrison at our premier event of the year and are thrilled to present Mr. Morrison at Ascend Amphitheater,” says Americana Music Association executive director Jed Hilly.

In other news, Morrison has scheduled a new three-night stand at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas next year on January 31, February 2 and February 3. Tickets are available at the venue’s box office, by calling 866-320-9763, and at TheColosseum.com or AXS.com.

Van the Man also performed a pair of shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace this past January. Morrison currently only has two other U.S. concerts on his upcoming tour schedule — on October 20 and 21 at the Fox Theater in Oakland, California.
