Credit: Kevin NixonYes spinoff group Yes Featuring Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin and Rick Wakeman will launch a U.S. tour celebrating the prog-rock band’s 50th anniversary in a very special way: with super-cheap tickets.

The trek kicks off on August 26 at the famed L.A. club the Whisky a Go Go, and the band has announced that tickets for the gig will cost just $2, the same price they cost when Yes played its first headlining concerts at the venue in 1971.

Fans who want to attend the show must purchase the tickets with cash at the door of the Whiskey on the day of the concert.

“I can remember playing the Whisky as though it was yesterday,” says founding Yes singer Jon Anderson. “It was such an important happening for the Yes band. We were still very new to the U.S.A., but I felt so connected to America for some reason…the stage, the setting, the atmosphere was so exciting.”

Anderson points out that Yes played five nights at the club, and recalls that “each night the crowds got bigger and more excited, [and] so did we. We played our hearts out, the reaction was amazing to say the least…and I just loved every minute.”

Keyboardist Rick Wakeman also says he has fond memories of the Whisky concerts. “There was no room on the stage for my keyboards, so they put planks of wood over the door entrance and I played there,” he recalls. “It was my very first trip to America and I loved it.”

Guitarist Trevor Rabin, meanwhile, has lived in Los Angeles for about 40 years, but the August 26 show will mark his first time playing the Whisky. “It’s going to be wild,” he says.
