Theory of a Deadman’s conquering charts and helping fans with latest number-one hit, “History of Violence”

Theory of a Deadman is alive and leading Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Songs chart for the fourth time in the band’s career.

“History of Violence,” the lead single from Theory’s new album Say Nothing, has taken the number-one spot on the Mainstream Rock Songs ranking, following in the footsteps of past chart-toppers “Rx (Medicate),” “Lowlife” and “Bad Girlfriend.”

Speaking to ABC Audio, frontman Tyler Connolly shares that “History of Violence” is about a “woman who is trapped in a relationship with someone who abuses her.”

“She feels there’s no way out, and the only thing to do is to kill him, which puts her in prison, where she, ironically, feels free,” Connolly explains. “Now she’s finally free of this monster, but yet she’s in jail.”

In addition to conquering Billboard charts, Connolly feels that “History of Violence” has had a personal impact on fans.

“It has already helped quite a few people,” he says. “We’ve seen comments and stuff like that. Even fans have come up to us and say, ‘I was a victim of domestic abuse, and I heard the song, and, wow, thank you.'”

Theory received a similar response to their previous number-one “Rx (Medicate),” which is about prescription drug abuse.

“We don’t know how much we can help people, but even a thank you is, for us, it’s not expected,” Connolly says. “We’re, like, ‘Oh!”, you know?”

Say Nothing was released in January. Theory will launch a U.S. tour behind the new record in April.
