Surfdog Records/BMGThe Stray Cats announced last year that in 2019, they planned to strut back onto the stage and into the recording studio to celebrate their 40th anniversary.  Now, the veteran rockabilly trio has revealed details about a new album and tour to mark the milestone.

The band will release 40, its first studio album in 26 years, on May 24 on CD, on vinyl and digitally. In support of the record, The Stray Cats will mount a major tour that will visit Europe in June and July, and then head to the U.S. in August.

The group — singer/guitarist Brian Setzer, bassist Lee Rocker and drummer Slim Jim Phantom — recorded 40 in late 2018 in Nashville with producer Peter Collins, who’s previously worked with Rush, Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper and many more.

“This new album really feels like the first record we did, it’s really natural and comfortable,” says Rocker. “For the recording…[w]e were all in one room standing next to each other recording live, with the amps turned up to 10.”

Among the songs on the album are “Cat Fight (Over a Dog Like Me),” “Rock It Off,” “Mean Pickin’ Mama” and “Devil Train.” Fans who pre-order 40 now get an instant download of “Cat Fight (Over a Dog Like Me),” which you can check out at The Stray Cats’ official YouTube channel.  It’s also available now for streaming and download.

A limited-edition vinyl single featuring “Cat Fight (Over a Dog Like Me)” and two other tracks from 40 will be released on April 13 as part of the 2019 Record Store Day. In addition, a colored-vinyl version of 40, packaged with a poster, will be available exclusively in independent record stores on May 24.
