Benowen RecordsLongtime Eagles bassist Timothy B. Schmit‘s latest solo album, Leap of Faith, flies into stores this Friday, September 23. Schmit tells ABC Radio that he considers the record “a sister album” to his previous studio effort, 2009’s Expando, because both collections of tunes were written solely by him.
While the album doesn’t necessarily have an underlying theme, Schmit says the various songs are about “having lived a longer life and hopefully living some longer still, and contemplating what it’s all about and trying to live my life to the fullest.”
Some of the songs on Leap of Faith certainly are reminiscent of the country-rock sound of The Eagles and Schmit’s previous group, Poco, while others are influenced by such genres as reggae, soul and modern rock. The 68-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer tells ABC Radio that while his new material might be “kind of all over the map,” he feels that it all “seems to fit” together.
Schmit co-produced Leap of Faith with frequent collaborator Hank Linderman, who also contributed vocals and guitar to the project. Timothy says that while he and Linderman played the bulk of the instruments, a few interesting guests artists also lent their talents to the record. These included Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench, lauded session drummer Jim Keltner, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, Doobie Brothers multi-instrumentalist John McFee and famed Brian Wilson collaborator Van Dyke Parks.
Coinciding with Leap of Faith‘s release, Schmit has a number of appearances lined up in the next few days. Tonight, he’ll take part in a show at The Factory in Franklin, Tennessee, that will be streamed live on MusicCityRoots.com. He also will perform at the City Winery in Nashville on Sunday and the City Winery in Atlanta on Monday.
