Courtesy of Concert Across AmericaOn Sunday, 350 musical events will take place across the country as part of a campaign called The Concert Across America to End Gun Violence. New York’s Beacon Theater will host a show featuring Jackson Browne, Pearl Jam‘s Eddie Vedder, Marc Cohn and Rosanne Cash.
Cohn tells ABC Radio that he’s planning to team up with Browne, Vedder and Cash during the concert for a special version of Creedence Clearwater Revival‘s “Who’ll Stop the Rain” that will include an extra verse that he wrote himself.
“I’m proud of it,” says the “Walking in Memphis” singer/songwriter of his addition to the John Fogerty classic. “I think it fits right in.” he says.
Cohn’s involvement in the show is particularly meaningful, since he’s a victim of gun violence himself.
In 2005, Marc survived a gunshot to the head, and says the incident highlights the problem with the current state of gun control. “[The] man who shot me…clearly was unstable,” he tells ABC Radio. “[He] was high on crystal meth. How did he end up with a .22 in his hand? So…how can I not be part of raising of my voice for an issue that nearly took my life?”
Cohn adds that he simply wants the event to encourage “discussion and dialogue.”
“Other people have…valid points,” he allows. “[B]ut I think all of us can agree, whatever we’re doing, what more horrifying month, [or year], have we had in recent history to prove that it’s not enough?”
Among the other notable Concert Across America to End Gun Violence events are a show in Los Angeles featuring ex-Eagles guitarist Don Felder and Wilson Phillips‘ Carnie Wilson, and a performance in Santa Barbara, California, starring Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins and Christopher Cross.
