Monarch PublishingDeanna Adler, the mother of original Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler, has just published a book that focuses on her son’s long, harrowing battle with heroin addiction and alcohol abuse, which led him to be fired from the famous band he helped found. Sweet Child of Mine: How I Lost My Son to Guns N’ Roses features Deanna’s candid account of Steven’s ascent to rock superstardom with GN’R, his struggle with addiction and his fight to get clean and sober.
Along the way, Mrs. Adler reveals, Steven went to rehab 25 times and attempted suicide multiple times, as well as suffering two heart attacks and a debilitating stroke. The book also delves into the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s issues with prescription medications, including sleeping pills and pain pills, which Deanna claims were facilitated by Steven’s rehab doctor. In the memoir, she reveals that her son’s doctor was the same physician that was prescribing medication for Prince at the time of the legendary entertainer’s death.
Sweet Child of Mine inevitably offers a positive message in which Deanna points out that she never gave up hope that her son could overcome his drug issues. Steven apparently is now clean, and last year he made a few guest appearances on Guns N’ Roses’ Not in This Lifetime Tour.
