This past November in Los Angeles, many big-name musicians came together to help Joni Mitchell celebrate her 75th birthday at a pair of tribute shows. Now, a concert film called Joni 75: A Birthday Celebration which documents those shows will be screened in select theaters across North America for one night only, February 7.

Among the artists who took part in the shows, held at The Music Center at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, were Graham Nash, James Taylor, Kris Kristofferson, Los Lobos, Chaka Khan, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Seal and Diana Krall.

The film also features backstage interviews where the various participants discuss what Mitchell’s music has meant to them.  For the finale, Joni herself hit the stage: The performers sang “Happy Birthday” to her and she blew out the candles on a birthday cake.

A preview trailer for the screening features footage of Taylor playing a stripped-down acoustic version of Joni’s classic song “Woodstock.”

In addition, the clip includes a comment from Mitchell’s one-time romantic partner, Nash, who says, “Quite frankly, once you’re in love with Joni, you’re always in love with Joni. And that’s why everybody was here tonight.”
