Courtesy of Fathom Events/Rhino EntertainmentThe Grateful Dead‘s classic 1977 concert film, The Grateful Dead Movie, will truck back into theaters for a special one-night-only screening on April 20 in honor of the flick’s 40th anniversary.
The movie, which was co-directed by late Dead singer/guitarist Jerry Garcia, features footage from a five-night stand that the band played at San Francisco’s famous Winterland venue in October 1974.
The “Grateful Dead Movie 40th Anniversary” screenings will be held at more than 500 theaters across the U.S. The event also will offer an exclusive preview of Long Strange Trip, the forthcoming Grateful Dead documentary that Martin Scorsese is executive producing, as well as a previously unreleased mini-documentary focusing on the legendary jam band’s celebrated May 8, 1977, concert at Cornell University.
The Grateful Dead Movie includes performances of such classic songs as “Truckin’,” “Sugar Magnolia,” “Playing in the Band” and “Casey Jones,” and also features a series of animated interludes and footage of audience members reacting to the show.
