Soundgarden’s Kim Thayil doesn’t “see the dignity” in continuing band without Chris Cornell

Credit: Michael LavineSoundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil has once again downplayed the idea that the grunge legends could continue following the death of Chris Cornell last year.

“It’s not likely that we could ever do Soundgarden without a missing piece,” Thayil tells Billboard.

However, the guitarist does say he hopes to still work with Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron and bassist Ben Shepherd in some capacity.

“I’d like to do more with Matt in the future. I’d like to do something with Ben in the future,” Thayil says.

“It’s likely Matt and Ben and I will do something in the future — it just probably won’t be Soundgarden,” he adds. “I don’t see the dignity in pursuing that course.”

A career-spanning Chris Cornell box set, which Thayil helped curate, will be released this Friday.
