Si, Si, CCR! Latin Creedence Tribute Album Featuring Billy Gibbons, Los Lobos & Others Arrives Today

1095

Concord PicanteZZ Top‘s Billy Gibbons, Los Lobos and Los Lonely Boys are among the many artists that have contributed to Quiero Creedence, a Latin-inspired Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute album that gets its release today. The record features a variety of top Latin acts paying homage to CCR, whose memorable songs influenced many musicians beyond the borders of the U.S.

Texas native Gibbons, who recently released his Afro-Cuban-inspired debut solo album, Perfectamundo, teamed up with singer La Marisoul from the Los Angeles-based Latin group La Santa Cecilia to record a multilingual version of “Green River” for Quiero Creedence. Los Lobos covered the 1969 CCR album track “Molina,” while Los Lonely Boys delivered a rendition of “Born on the Bayou” for the project.

Other artists who contributed to the album include Juanes, Ozomatli and Carlos Santana‘s son Salvador.

Juan Manuel Caipo, whose band Bang Data recorded a version of “Fortunate Son” for Quiero Creedence, is one of the album’s executive producers and helped organize the project. He recalls that he moved forward with the concept after a friend suggested that he cover a CCR tune.

“It stuck in my head, and then I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be great to do a tribute album with artists from all over Latin America?'” he explains. “And we started slowly and organically, with every band doing their own take on songs they grew up with.”
