The initiative, launched by the World Animal Protection charity, has helped provide one million rabies vaccinations to dogs in Africa and Asia so far and is hoping to vaccinate a million more animals.

“Our dog Dolly is a wonder dog beagle extraordinaire! She’s very loving,” says Wood in a statement. “All dogs should be treated responsibly, with understanding and compassion, which is why I support World Animal Protection’s campaign to create a better life for dogs around the world.”

The organization targets areas in the world where stray dogs are regularly captured and euthanized because people in those regions fear that the animals will spread rabies. According to the charity, many healthy or non-rabid dogs are killed in an effort to protect communities from rabies.

World Animal Protection maintains, “Each and every dog around the world deserves love and protection but many face abuse, disease, starvation and death because they are homeless. Many are abandoned by owners who no longer care or pay for them. We are leading the way to end the unnecessary deaths of millions of dogs, every year, caused by the fear of rabies or dog bites.”

Other well-known artists who also are supporting the cause include pop stars Natalie Imbruglia and Leona Lewis.
