ABC/Randy HolmesThe Rock on the Range festival has announced it will be holding a “special tribute” to the late Chris Cornell tonight in lieu of Soundgarden‘s scheduled headlining performance.
“Our hearts are filled with sorrow, but the show must go on,” reads a statement from the festival. “Please join us immediately after Live‘s performance for a special tribute to Chris Cornell.”
Thursday night, Rock on the Range held its annual festival kick-off party, which was headlined by Stone Sour. During their set, Corey Taylor‘s band performed a cover of Soundgarden’s “Outshined” in honor of Cornell.
In other Cornell tribute news, Brad Wilk has posted a statement mourning his Audioslave band mate.
“The sadness of you leaving I can not begin to describe here,” Wilk writes. “So close to home. I was in awe of your talent. The time I was able to spend with you, which was not enough, I will forever cherish. At your core you were a smart, sweet and gentle soul. This is how I will always remember you. Love you Chris.”
Cornell died at age 52 late Wednesday night. His death was officially ruled a suicide, but a joint statement from his widow Vicky and the family’s attorney issued Friday contends that the prescription drug Ativan may have played a role in his death.
