Credit: Rob ShanahanRingo Starr has teamed up with a variety of musicians to record a new anthem called “Now the Time Has Come” in commemoration of the United Nations’ International Day of Peace, which is held annually on September 21. The Beatles legend sings and plays drums on the song, which also features vocal contributions from Men at Work‘s Colin Hay, Mr. Mister frontman and All Starr Band member Richard Page, veteran R&B singer Billy Valentine and others.

“I worked on this record with Peace & Love” Starr says in a statement. “It was a joy to be part of this project.”

Ringo co-wrote “Now the Time Has Come” with producer Bruce Sugar. The song also is tied to a social media campaign called #HugforPeace that was launched recently in conjunction with the International Day of Peace. The initiative seeks to promote non-violence by encouraging people to post images of themselves and their loved ones sharing a hug at HugforPeace.org and associated websites.

You can check out an official video for “Now the Time Has Come” at Starr’s Facebook page.

UN Assistant Secretary-General Ray Chambers says of the tune, “I am so grateful to Ringo Starr for lending his talent to unite people through the gift of song. I hope people across the world from Colombia to Syria will heed this call for peace — now.”
