Eagle Rock EntertainmentA restored version of John Lennon and Yoko Ono‘s 1972 film Imagine will be shown in theaters across the globe on September 17.

The movie, which was co-directed by Lennon and Ono, boasts a remixed and remastered soundtrack, and the theatrical screening will include 15 minutes of previously unseen bonus footage.

Imagine was filmed mainly at John and Yoko’s Tittenhurst Park home in Ascot, U.K., and in New York City, while the former Beatles star was recording his 1971 solo album of the same name. The movie features a variety of vignettes that accompany each song on the album, as well as a few tunes from Ono’s own 1971 record, Fly.

The film includes a number of guest appearances by such celebrities as Fred Astaire, Andy Warhol, Dick Cavett, Jack Palance and Lennon’s ex-band mate George Harrison.

The extra footage includes scenes from the recording studio, where John is joined by a band that includes Harrison on guitar, veteran session keyboardist Nicky Hopkins, future Yes drummer Alan White and longtime Beatles collaborator Klaus Voormann on bass. The segment features musicians playing the songs “How Do You Sleep?” and “Oh My Love” live and boasts a specially created Dolby Atmos surround-sound mix.

“The people who all worked on Imagine were Peace People and it was so enlightening and exciting all the way through to be one of them,” says Yoko in a statement. “Remember, each one of us has the power to change the world.”

The movie has been restored frame-by-frame, and the audio has been remixed by Grammy-winning engineer Paul Hicks. Check out a trailer for the flick at Lennon’s official YouTube channel.
