© Apple Corps Ltd.A fully restored version of The Beatles‘ historic concert at New York’s Shea Stadium on August 15, 1965, will be shown exclusively during theatrical screenings of the upcoming Ron Howard-directed Fab Four documentary The Beatles: Eight Days a Week — The Touring Years. The band’s 30-minute, 11-song performance in front of a crowd of more than 55,000 people marked the first time a rock show was staged in a stadium.
The event was captured by fourteen 35-millimeter cameras and shot by Ed Sullivan Productions in collaboration with Beatles manager Brian Epstein. In addition to the restoration of the footage, the show’s audio has been remastered by Giles Martin and engineer Sam Okell at Abbey Road Studios.
Meanwhile, a new trailer for Eight Days a Week — The Touring Years has debuted on The Beatles’ official YouTube channel. The video features a montage of archival clips of the group, as well as some new interview footage of Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney and discussing what it was like for the band members to deal with the throngs of screaming fans.
“This mania was so much pressure,” says Starr, while McCartney adds, “We were kids. We were all pretty scared.”
Paul also touches on why the band decided to stop touring, pointing out, “We all started to get pretty fed up…We were looking for somewhere new to go.”
Eight Days a Week — The Tour Years, which takes an in-depth look at the Fab Four’s history from 1962 to 1966, will get its world premiere in London on September 15, then will open in U.S. theaters the following day. It will be available for streaming starting on September 17 exclusively on Hulu.
