In a message on its Twitter feed, Queen simply wrote, “An unauthorised use at the Republican Convention against our wishes.” However, Lambert posted an even more pointed tweet. The singer, who’s gay, posted a photo of late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, who also was gay, with following caption: “If your political party spends decades treating gay people as second-class citizens, guess what: you don’t get to use Freddie Mercury’s music at your convention.”

In June, May wrote, “We are taking advice on what steps we can take to ensure this use does not continue.”
