Pink Floyd Honored with British Postage Stamps for Band’s 50th Anniversary

Royal MailBritain’s postal agency is paying tribute to Pink Floyd with a series of postage stamps to mark the band’s 50th anniversary.

The Royal Mail is issuing 10 commemorative stamps honoring the influential rock band. A set of six stamps, which will be available starting July 7, shows the memorable cover art of six of the band’s albums — 1967’s The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, 1970’s Atom Heart Mother, 1973’s The Dark Side of the Moon, 1975’s Wish You Were Here, 1977’s Animals, and 2014’s The Endless River.  A stamp featuring The Division Bell, Pink Floyd’s 1994 album, was issued in 2010.

Moreover, there will be a miniature sheet of four stamps featuring images of Pink Floyd performing live throughout the group’s history, including performances from London’s UFO Club in 1966, and the band’s tours supporting The Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall and The Division Bell albums.

“Few bands in the history of rock have managed to carve out a career as rich and expansive as that of Pink Floyd,” Royal Mail said in a statement. “From their blues-based psychedelic roots, the members of the outfit have created some of modern music’s most totemic and inspirational albums, with ground-breaking live performances to match.”

You can pre-order the stamps now at RoyalMail.com.

The announcement of the stamps comes as Pink Floyd is planning to launch a new reissue campaign on June 3 that eventually will see the release of all of the band’s studio albums on 180-gram vinyl. The first albums reissued will be The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, 1968’s A Saucerful of Secrets, and 1969’s More soundtrack and Ummagumma two-disc collection.
