The honor, named after late electric guitar and multi-track recording pioneer Les Paul, recognizes people or institutions that have made a significant impact on the world of audio production and technology.

“It is a distinct honor to receive the Les Paul Innovation Award,” says Frampton in a statement. “I would say that many of my career highlights occurred while holding an instrument in my hands that bears Les Paul’s name…Les changed the way we record forever.”

“I can only hope that I’ve been able to make a fraction of the positive impact that Les Paul made in his iconic career,” he adds.

Michael Braunstein, executive director of the Les Paul Foundation, which presents the honor, says in a statement, “Peter Frampton remains one of the most skillful and celebrated artists in rock history. He also was a friend of Les Paul’s and has played a pivotal role in helping the Foundation keep Les’s legacy alive.”

Prior to launching a career as a Grammy-winning solo artist, Frampton played with the bands The Herd and Humble Pie.  He’s also been an in-demand session musician, and served as technical adviser to the 2000 Cameron Crowe film Almost Famous, in which he also acted.

The TEC Awards will be held during the third day of the 2019 NAMM Show, a music-equipment trade show which runs from January 24 to January 27. The awards recognize “outstanding achievement in audio technology and production.”

Among the 2019 nominees for awards in the various Creative Achievement categories are Gregg Allman, Van Morrison, Dead & Company and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Check out the full list of nominees at TECAwards.org.
