In a statement, guitarist Mike McCready says the grunge legends are “honored” to accept the role.

“Independent record stores are hugely important to me, and have been ever since I was 12 years old,” McCready says. “Before I even really knew what they were — there was a certain feeling of ‘this is a dream come true,’ and it’s a wonderland and there’s so much to learn in here…and it’s still that way.”

Previous Record Store Day Ambassadors include Metallica, Dave Grohl, Jack White, Ozzy Osbourne and Iggy Pop.

Record Store 2019 will take place in independent record stores across the U.S. and the rest of the world on Saturday, April 13.
