Capitol Records/UMePaul McCartney‘s latest album, Egypt Station, bowed at number one on the Billboard 200, marking his first chart-topper since 1982’s Tug of War.

The album, released September 7, surpassed expectations, moving 153,000 equivalent album units — which represents the number of streaming and song downloads, combined with traditional album sales — according to Billboard. Of Egypt Station’s 153,000 units, 147,000 came from traditional album sales.

The collection also marks the 76-year-old rocker’s eighth number one album, and his first to debut at the top. Those include albums recorded under his own name, and with the band Wings. McCartney’s other group, The Beatles, still own the record for the most number ones on the Billboard 200 with 19.

The 36 years, three months and 10 days span between Tug of War and Egypt Station marks the longest for a living artist in the history of the Billboard 200 chart. The only act to wait longer between chart-toppers was Johnny Cash, whose posthumous release, American V: A Hundred Highways, debuted at the top in 2006 — 36 years, 10 months and nine days after 1969’s Johnny Cash at San Quentin.
