According to Deadline, Ziggy’s working with Paramount Pictures to develop a biopic about his pioneering dad, who helped bring reggae music to the mainstream.

Marley, who died of cancer in 1981 at age 36, introduced multiple generations to reggae music with classic tunes like “Get Up, Stand Up,” “No Woman, No Cry,” “Could You Be Loved,” “Buffalo Soldier,” Jammin’,” “Redemption Song” and “I Shot the Sheriff.”  That last song was famously covered by Eric Clapton and topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1974.

While known for his musical legacy, Bob Marley endured numerous hardships during his life, including discrimination in his own country of Jamaica because his father was white and his mother was black.

Despite his struggles, Marley became arguably the world’s most notable reggae artist, and used his songs to send a message of activism and consciousness.

This new project won’t be Ziggy’s first film about his father. He served as one of the executive producers of the 2012 documentary Marley and also produced the archival concert video Bob Marley & The Wailers: Easy Skanking in Boston ’78.
