Nikki Sixx Says Sixx:A.M. Is “Up for the Challenge” to Be an Opening Band

Eleven Seven MusicSixx:A.M. may boast former members of Motley Crue and Guns N’ Roses, but the band will be a supporting act on Shinedown and Five Finger Death Punch‘s co-headlining arena tour, which kicks off tonight in Little Rock, Arkansas. As bassist Nikki Sixx tells ABC Radio, that’s just fine with them.

“We’re up for the challenge of going out there in the support position and showing people what we’re made of,” he says.

Sixx:A.M. will be promoting its new album, Prayers for the Blessed, which will be released on November 18, but the band members expect that most of the songs they play during this tour, even their older material, will be new to the audience.

“We know that people are there to see the headliner and the co-headliner,” Sixx says. “They might know a little bit about Sixx:A.M., they might know a song or two, they might’ve heard our name.”

He adds, “We wanna go and win ’em over. We wanna go hit ’em over the head, wanna deliver a powerful set.”

While the members of Sixx:A.M. are certainly very experienced playing live with their other bands, they haven’t toured to much as Sixx:A.M., instead focusing on their studio output. The group has upped its touring considerably in the last year, and Nikki says he’s observed the band evolve on stage.

“One of my favorite things is to be in this band live,” Sixx tells ABC Radio. “[Frontman] James [Michael‘s] vocals, our background singers, [guitarist] DJ [Ashba‘s] guitar playing, our drummer’s fantastic — we’re a really good band. Sometimes you have to realize that there’s a lot of bands that are really good in the studio, but aren’t necessarily great live, and one thing I love is that we found out that we’re actually a great band live, and that’s exciting.”
