Interscope RecordsRolling Stones fans listening to the U.K.’s BBC Radio 2 station Thursday morning were treated to the world premiere of the band’s cover of blues great Little Walter‘s “Hate to See You Go.” The song will appear on the British rockers’ upcoming studio album, Blue & Lonesome, which will be released December 2.
The raw-sounding track is driven by an insistent guitar riff, as well as Mick Jagger‘s reverb-drenched vocals and distorted harmonica. You can listen to song at the 38-minute mark of a radio program that’s has been posted at BBC.co.uk.
As previously reported, Blue & Lonesome features covers of 12 songs by blues greats like Jimmy Reed, Willie Dixon, Eddie Taylor and Howlin’ Wolf. The Rolling Stones recorded the album live in a London studio in just a few days, and didn’t add any overdubs to the tracks. Eric Clapton plays guitar on two of the tracks: “I Can’t Quit You Baby” and “Everybody Knows About My Good Thing.”
The Rolling Stones canceled a planned show Tuesday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas because Jagger’s been battling laryngitis, but the band still is scheduled to play another concert at the same venue this Saturday, October 22.
