New Jersey Serenade: Bruce Springsteen Breaks Record for Longest US Concert Again

Credit: Danny ClinchFor the third time in the last eight days, Bruce Springsteen has broken his record for his longest concert ever played in the U.S., after he and the E Street Band delivered another marathon show Tuesday night at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

According to BruceSpringsteen.net, the performance ran a whopping four hours and one minute, topping the three-hour, 59-minute show at the same venue this past Thursday, which in turn topped the three-hour, 52-minute gig he played at the stadium Tuesday, August 23.

Billboard.com reports Springsteen promised the crowd early on Tuesday night that he’d be playing many tunes he hadn’t performed at his other two MetLife Stadium shows, and he stuck to that promise. Those songs included “Blinded by the Light,” “Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street,” and “It’s Hard to Be a Saint in the City.” He also brought out a special guest: acclaimed singer/songwriter Rickie Lee Jones, who contributed backing vocals to “Spirit in the Night.”

The Boss also worked a couple of cover tunes into the main portion of the show — Eddie Cochran‘s “Summertime Blues,” which was chosen from the audience’s sign requests, and the 1966 Manfred Mann hit “Pretty Flamingo.”

Springsteen finished the concert with a nine-song encore that included versions of The Isley Brothers‘ “Shout” and “Twist and Shout,” and his own classics “Jungleland,” “Born to Run,” “Dancing in the Dark” and “Glory Days.” Appropriately enough, as he had at his other two MetLife shows, Bruce closed Tuesday’s concert with a performance of “Jersey Girl,” followed by a fireworks display.

As previously reported, Springsteen’s longest concert ever took place on July 31, 2012, in Helsinki, Finland, and ran four hours and five minutes.
