Polygram Entertainment and CapitolThe new Ron Howard-directed Beatles documentary, The Beatles: Eight Days a Week — The Touring Years, premiered in theaters and on Hulu last week, but come November 18, you’ll be able to purchase the film on DVD and Blu-ray, including deluxe editions offering a variety of bonus features.
As previously reported, Eight Days a Week — The Touring Years focuses on the Fab Four’s career as a performing act from 1962 to 1966. The movie, which was fully sanctioned by the band, features a treasure trove of archival footage, including rare performances, as well as new interviews with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
The deluxe versions of the home video will be available as two-DVD and two-Blu-ray sets that each include bonus discs containing features running about 100 minutes, plus a 64-page booklet boasting an introduction penned by Howard, rare Beatles photos and more.
Among the extras are a variety of featurettes, including Words and Music, focusing on The Beatles’ songwriting and the artists who inspired them; Early Clues to a New Direction, which touches on such aspects of the band members as their humor, the influence of women on their songwriting and lives, and the impact they had on the world; and Liverpool, which takes a look at the Fab Four’s hometown.
The bonus disc also features an alternate opening to Eight Days a Week — The Touring Years, footage of five rare performance, and segments about Ronettes singer Ronnie Spector‘s relationship with The Beatles. You’ll also get features on the making of the movie A Hard Day’s Night, the band’s concerts at New York City’s Shea Stadium, and the Fab Four’s tours of Australia and Japan.
