ABC/Randy HolmesMetallica has been touring in support of its 2016 album Hardwired…to Self-Destruct for nearly two years now, and the metal legends don’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. According to drummer Lars Ulrich, the Hardwired trek may last all the way into the next decade.
“This may just dip into the beginning of 2020,” Ulrich tells The Mercury News.
Ulrich credits the longevity of the tour to the positive reception of Hardwired.
“The perception is that it’s probably our most well-received record since [1991’s] Black Album,” Ulrich says. “So, to have that 30-plus years into your career, and to make a record that connects at that level — still — is crazy cool.”
Over the weekend, Metallica played an acoustic benefit show to raise money for their All Within My Hands charity foundation. The concert raised over $1.3 million for issues including hunger and workforce education.
Metallica’s tour continues with a November 26 concert in Las Vegas.
