ABC/Randy HolmesMetallica‘s show at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska last week was the heaviest concert in the venue’s history…literally.

According to the Lincoln Journal Star, the metal legends set the record for the most weight hanging from the arena’s rigging grid. During the show, over 190,000 pounds of sound and lighting gear hung from the ceiling, and carried a “dynamic weight” of up to 240,000 pounds.

“The structural design was developed for doing concerts,” arena manager Tom Lorenz says. “That was a desire we had during the design phase, about having the structural capacity to hang the biggest shows and to have the building really fitted for concerts. The architects, engineers and builders gave us that.”

“That gives us a leg up. This is unique,” he adds. “Not every building will be able to put up all of [Metallica’s] show. We were able to do it well and do it fast.”

Metallica is currently on tour in continued support of the band’s latest album, 2016’s Hardwired…to Self-Destruct. The run continues Thursday night in Winnipeg.
