ABC/Fred WatkinsA long-lost Nirvana demo session recorded in 1992 has surfaced online.

The recording was uploaded by drummer Rey Washam, who played in bands including Ministry, Tad and Scratch Acid Kurt Cobain was a fan of the latter group. The session featured Washam on drums, Krist Novoselic on bass and Dave Grohl on guitar.

“Dave was obviously new to guitar, but had some songs he wanted to try out with a band,” Washam explains. “I had just quit playing in Tad and Dave asked me to come over and ‘jam.'”

Washam uploaded 30 minutes of the two-hour session. At around the 24:35 mark, you can hear a riff that sounds like an early version of the In Utero song “Scentless Apprentice.”

You can listen to the recording now streaming on YouTube.
