Chiaki Nozu/WireImageLou Reed would have turned 77 this past Saturday, and as a gift to the world, his estate has released a never-before-heard demo of “Endless Cycle,” from Reed’s 1989 album New York.

The demo is over a minute long and consists of just a vocal track, with Lou making notes to himself about what the other parts of the song should sound like.

Reed died October 27, 2013, at his home in East Hampton, NY, of liver disease.

Fun fact: A variety of furry spider is named Loureedia, after the artist, because its fur is velvety and it lives underground. Velvet Underground, geddit? You can read about it on the UK’s Natural History Museum site
