Led Zeppelin Reissuing Expanded Version of 1997 “BBC Sessions” Compilation in September

Atlantic/Swan SongAbout a year after Led Zeppelin completed the reissue campaign that saw the release of expanded editions of all of its studio albums comes word that another special reissue from the band is on its way. An expanded version of the 1997 archival compilation BBC Sessions, which features in-studio live recordings the rock legends made from 1969 to 1971, will be released in multiple configurations on September 16.

The Complete BBC Sessions features newly remastered tracks overseen by Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, and contains eight previously unreleased bonus recordings, including three tunes from an April 1969 session that had long been considered lost.

The reissue will be available as a three-CD set, a five-LP vinyl collection, a digital download, and a Super Deluxe Boxed Set featuring the three CDs and the five LPs. The super deluxe package also boasts a 48-page book featuring photos, recording details, and images of BBC memorabilia; a high-quality print of the original BBC Sessions cover art; and a download card allowing access to high-definition audio files.

Among the unreleased tracks on The Complete BBC Sessions‘ bonus disc are “lost” live studio recordings of “I Can’t Quit You Baby,” “You Shook Me” and “Sunshine Woman.” The latter track is the only known recorded performance of that tune. Other songs on the extra disc include multiple renditions of “Communication Breakdown” and “What Is and What Should Never Be.”

The original BBC Sessions was released as a two-CD set in November 1997. It peaked at #12 on the Billboard 200, and went on to sell more than two million copies in the U.S.
