Courtesy of Rogers & CowanMoody Blues singer/bassist John Lodge officially releases his CD/DVD box set Live from Birmingham — The 10,000 Light Years Tour today. The collection documents the final show of Lodge’s 2016 U.K. tour promoting his latest solo album, 10,000 Light Years Ago, which took place in his hometown of Birmingham in September 2016.

“[W]hen I decided to tour in England I said to the agent, ‘The last concert has to be in Birmingham at the Town Hall,'” Lodge explains to ABC Radio, noting that the venue “was where all the best bands where I came from would try and play [on Saturday nights].”

The concert featured performances of some of the classic Moodies songs Lodge penned, selections from his recent solo album and a couple of rarities.

At Moody Blues concerts, Lodge shares the spotlight with singer/guitarist Justin Hayward, so playing his solo shows gave him the rare chance to have an audience’s full attention.

“I really enjoyed it,” he maintains, “and it was really nice to be in control and perform songs that I hadn’t performed and songs I wanted to perform.”

He also points out that playing his Moody Blues compositions with his solo band offered fans “a slightly different look” on the tunes. (AUDIO IS ABC 1-ON1)

The Live from Birmingham box set includes a bonus DVD featuring footage from Lodge’s trip to New York City to promote the release of 10,000 Light Years Ago and backstage and rehearsal footage from his U.K. tour. A double-disc red-vinyl version of Live from Birmingham will be released in November.

As previously reported, Lodge will mount a U.S. tour in support of Live from Birmingham that kicks off October 26 in Vienna, Virginia, and wraps up November 8 in New York City.
