Green Day is rehearsing “Insomniac” in full, too

ABC/Heidi GutmanLast week, Green Day sent fans into a frenzy when drummer Tre Cool revealed that the band had rehearsed their classic 1994 album, Dookie, in full. However, Dookie isn’t the only album getting the rehearsal treatment.

Bassist Mike Dirnt has now revealed that the punk trio recently played through Dookie‘s 1995 follow-up Insomniac in its entirety.

While not quite as successful as the diamond-certified Dookie, Insomniac was still certified double-platinum, and produced the singles “Brain Stew/Jaded” and “Geek Stink Breath.”

So what’s going on here? When the Dookie news broke, many guessed that Green Day were planning to play the album in full on tour in honor of its upcoming 25th anniversary next year. Insomniac celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2020, so could there be a tour in the works for that year, too? Or is Green Day, who’s famous for playing lengthy shows, planning to run through both albums each night on one tour?

Maybe the band is just having fun going through their older albums, all while laughing at our wild speculation.

Green Day’s most recent is 2016’s Revolution Radio.
