“Grammy Salute to Music Legends” event honoring Queen, Tina Turner and others scheduled for July

Neal Preston © Queen Productions Ltd.; Rob Verhorst/RedfernsThe latest edition of the Grammy Salute to Music Legends event, celebrating the Recording Academy’s 2018 Special Merit Awards winners, will take place July 14 at the at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

The gala, will feature performances and tributes to this year’s Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Trustees Award and Technical Grammy Award honorees, will air later in the year as an episode of the PBS series Great Performances.

As previously reported, the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award honorees include Queen, Tina Turner, Neil Diamond, country-folk great Emmylou Harris, New Orleans funk group The Meters, renowned studio drummer Hal Blaine and pioneering swing-era bandleader Louis Jordan.

This year’s Trustees Award recipients will be legendary concert promoter Bill Graham, Sire Records founder Seymour Stein and acclaimed film composer and conductor John Williams.

Among the confirmed performers at the event are Sammy Hagar, who’ll pay homage to Graham; The MonkeesMicky Dolenz, who will pay tribute to Diamond; Herb Alpert, who’ll salute Blaine; and Trisha Yearwood, who will honor Harris. Veteran keyboardist and songwriter Greg Phillinganes will serve as musical director for the gala.

In addition, actress Angela Bassett and punk singer and poet Henry Rollins have been confirmed as presenters. Additional performers and presenters will be announced soon.
