Courtesy of AXS TVBeach Boys frontman Mike Love will be the focus of a new episode of the Dan Rather-hosted AXS TV series The Big Interview, which will debut on Tuesday, October 25, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. In the show, the singer will share a variety of stories from his long and eventful music career and life, many of which he also included in his recently published memoir, Good Vibrations.

Among the many topics Love discusses with Rather are the inspiration of The Beach Boys’ early surf-themed hits, the origins of the band’s trademark harmonies, the story behind the making of the group’s classic song “Good Vibrations” and his decades-long interest in the practice of Transcendental Meditation.

Meanwhile, in a brief preview clip of the show, Love reveals what he considers the low point in the band’s history, which he says was his cousin Dennis Wilson‘s “choice of roommates,” the murderous cult leader Charles Manson, who — along with some of his followers — lived at the Beach Boys drummer’s home for a short time in the late 1960s.

Also in the preview, the 75-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer talks about his main focus today as The Beach Boys’ frontman.

“I keep my eye on the goal,” he says, “which is to create and recreate music that makes people feel good, and has for 50 years.”
