The upcoming shows follow a pair of similar gigs that the band played earlier this month in Southern California. The concerts begin with a set by the current Foreigner lineup, followed by a set played by guitarist Mick Jones and five former members: original frontman Lou Gramm, drummer Dennis Elliott, keyboardist Al Greenwood and multi-instrumentalist Ian McDonald, plus the group’s second bassist, Rick Wills.

As Jones explains to ABC Radio, the shows end with an encore featuring all of the musicians, which he says is “a bit of a free-for-all, but it’s fun.”

The 73-year-old rocker points out with a laugh, “I’m the one that has to work the hardest, ’cause I play in the three bands. And…it’s pretty intense, actually.”

Foreigner began playing occasional reunion last year to mark the band’s 40th anniversary, and Jones says he expects more to be scheduled in 2019.

“I think there’s room to do it,” Mick notes. And…I think it’s good, psychologically…for all of us to be able to do it, to put something together that keeps a link and keeps a thread going, and reminds us again of our heritage.”

Meanwhile, Jones reveals that the reunion concerts have been filmed and recorded for future releases.

“There’s quite a lot of footage that we collected,” he reports. “Everything [we’ve] pretty much done.”

As for how it’s felt for him to play with his former band mates, Jones tells ABC Radio that “looking over and seeing your old pals [is kind] of mesmerizing and exciting at the same time.”
