According to Variety, at a fundraising event for the Democratic presidential nominee Thursday night in Los Angeles, Elton performed his classics “Your Song” and “Circle of Life,” and told the crowd how much he admires the former secretary of state.

“I’m a British citizen, but I dearly, dearly love this country,” Elton told the crowd. “I love all that you stand for: equality, decency, kindness, and respect. And I’m so proud to support Hillary tonight because she has dedicated her life to these principles. She is, without a doubt, the only candidate supremely qualified to lead this great nation in these challenging times.”

Elton went on to praise Clinton’s devotion to the “well-being of every person in this country and around the world.” Noting that he’s spent the past 25 years fighting AIDS and advocating for human rights, the rock legend said that Clinton has been “fighting for equality, for the rights of all people, long before I was.”

He added, “She’s amassed an astonishing record of achievement — unmatched by any American politician today. America is already great — and Hillary is a part of the reason why.”

Variety reports that tickets to the event started at $33,400 each, with some of the 135 guests including Barbra Streisand and Motown Records founder Berry Gordy.
