Courtesy of MSO PREagles bassist Timothy B. Schmit will be back in his childhood hometown of Sacramento, California, today to be honored with one of the first stars on the city’s new Walk of Stars. The inaugural unveiling ceremony will take place at 1614 19th Street, and will be followed in the evening by a VIP reception and gala dinner at the Memorial Auditorium.
Schmit tells ABC Radio that he thinks the honor is “pretty cool,” and explains that while he wasn’t born in Sacramento, he certainly developed his love of music while living there.
“I did all my schooling there, and I learned music there, made my first records with my friends from there, who are still great friends,” he points out. “And then I went on and had a really…pretty great career, and I’m still having it.” Schmit, who joined the Eagles in 1977, went on to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the band. He also played with the pioneering country-rock act Poco.
Besides Schmit, the inaugural class of Sacramento Walk of Stars honorees includes actor LeVar Burton, gold-medal-winning Olympic swimmer Debbie Meyer and two other local luminaries. Timothy reveals that he isn’t planning to perform at the ceremony, but says, “I think I’m gonna be expected to speak a little bit…probably about my time living [in Sacramento].”
Schmit tells ABC Radio that among the things he likes about the California capital is that “it’s full of history [and] it’s got a good music scene too. Always has.”
As previously reported, Schmit will be releasing a new solo album called Leap of Faith on September 23. Timothy says the record features an eclectic mix of tunes that includes country, reggae and rock influences.
