Credit: Derek HudsonEx-Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler has announced plans for a new North American tour to promote his forthcoming solo album, Down the Road Wherever, which will take place in late-summer 2019.

The outing, which features nearly 30 dates, kicks off August 16 in Mashantucket, Connecticut, and is plotted out through a September 22 concert in Los Angeles. Knopfler will be touring with an expanded 10-piece outfit, featuring many longtime collaborators — among them guitarist Richard Bennett and former Dire Straits keyboardist Guy Fletcher — as well as a newly added saxophonist and trumpet player.

“My songs are made to be performed live,” says Knopfler. “I love the whole process of writing them alone and then recording them with the band, but ultimately the best part is playing them to an audience live. I enjoy the whole circus, traveling from town to town and interacting with this group of players is a total pleasure. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Tickets for most of the announced dates will be available to the general public starting Monday, October 29, at 10 a.m. local time. In addition, Knopfler has launched a new premium pre-sale service via his website called “Fair Admission.” Fans can register between now and October 24 at 11:59 p.m. PT to purchase tickets early. This will be Knopfler’s first stateside tour since Dire Straits’ induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this past April. Mark didn’t attend the ceremony. The outing will be preceded by an expansive 2019 European trek that runs from an April 25 concert in Barcelona, Spain, through a July 22 show in Verona, Italy.

Down the Road Wherever will be released on November 16.
