TKO/Eric GettlerDickey Betts is in critical condition following a freak accident in his Sarasota home.
According to Sarasota’s Herald Tribune, the legendary guitarist and founding Allman Brothers Band member slipped and hit his head while playing with his dog in the backyard on Monday night. He was transported to an undisclosed local hospital is in “critical but stable condition,” according to manager David Spero.
Betts is sedated and is scheduled to undergo surgery on Friday to alleviate swelling.
Betts’ wife Donna tells the paper, “The family appreciates all of your thoughts and prayers during this very trying time. We are by his side giving him the strength to pull through this.”
