Four albums by David Crosby‘s old band CPR — 1998’s CPR and Live at Cuesta College, 1999’s Live at the Wiltern and 2001’s Just Like Gravity — will be made available digitally this Friday, May 15, while the self-titled album and Just Like Gravity also will be reissued on CD on July 31.
The jazz-flavored CPR, which also featured keyboardist James Raymond, who is Crosby’s son, and guitarist Jeff Pevar, was a precursor to David’s current touring group the Sky Trails Band.
The trio got together several years after Crosby had undergone a life-saving liver transplant, and not long after he reconnected with Raymond, who was given up for adoption when David was young.
“CPR was me realizing that the world of CSN and Y was getting old and stuck in its place and that I needed to still keep moving,” says Crosby. “That I had more and different music in me that needed room to grow and stretch. CPR was me finding my son James and realizing pretty quickly that he was an even better musician that I was, and that he was rapidly becoming the best writing partner I’d ever had.”
David adds, “I don’t think very many people heard these records, and I do think that they are some of the best work I’ve been involved with.”
Meanwhile, Crosby officially has postponed his 2020 U.S. tour because of the coronavirus pandemic. The trek was slated to run from a May 14 concert in Santa Barbara, California, through a June 21 show in Westhampton Beach, New York.
“The safety and wellbeing of the fans is our paramount concern,” David says in a statement, adding, “We are already in the process of rescheduling all these shows and we should have news [regarding] this very soon.”
